Interface - Play, Back, Forward and Pages buttons and colors
I feel there should be more consistent icons for those that are the most used functions.
The problem:
1.
Sometimes the arrow indicate scrolling direction:
- on the community screen, back to main menu is a arrow to the right
- on the campaign theme selection, back to main menu is a arrow to the left
That would be ok, but sometimes that same arrow icon indicates direction on the meaning of navigation flow:
- on the community screen, arrows to the right on the map list send us (in the opposite direction) to a screen with more details of the level.
- on the dragon selection screen, the help pop up has an arrow to the left that closes it.
- pre-game, the boost selection popup has a arrow to the right to proceed.
2.
Additionaly, "Play" in the campaign is a arrow to the right. "Play" in a custom map is the word play.
3.
Those button colors meaning didn't help for me. They seem inconsistent too. When you chose campaign, the "back" buttons are: blue (theme selection), green (level selection), blue (dragon selection). And, on the dragon selection, the right arrow is green, while the popup dismiss is brown.
The same green and blue is used with meaning of "active tab" for dragon/ability selection and new/owned community maps. Also for current page of community maps.
Icon suggestion:
The sliding interface is a nice eye candy, but I feel the menu scrolling direction is not very clear (specially if you missed the transition) to use it's relative position for navigation language. I would rather have the words "back" and "play" accordingly and consistently.
The arrow could be reserved to the meaning of "confirm" on community level selection and popup dismiss (tutorial, new unit encounter, help on dragon selection*, boost pre-game).
Popup dismiss would need to share the same mechanic - that I would conventionally expect to be either :
A - touch anywhere on the screen
B - touch outside of the popup (background) or precisely on the confirm/X/cancel/dismiss button
Color suggestion:
Color problems are less relevant yet more complicated. I think it could be improved by either:
A - One color for all buttons I may want to press (Play, Back, Inactive tabs, and so on) - like it currently is on the campaign level selection where level buttons and back button are all green. And a different highlight for "active tabs" that I will not ever want to press as I know it is already on.
B - Green are buttons that will make me change screen (Play, Back, Level selection in either community or campaign) and another scheme for active tabs/pages. Nah, I didn't really like it and will not go further but maybe it's a valid exit.
C - Make consistent the meaning of "green is confirm/forward", "blue is cancel/back" (navigation wise, I didn't change my mind about scrolling direction being imperceptible). All play, level selections, purchases would be green. Blue would be restricted to back. As I recall, you would only need to change the back buttons from campaign level selectionand dragon selection help*, and the forward boost purchase. The tabs I would still recommend the green/green-with-highlight scheme. As they are also "progressive" interactions.

help on dragon selection*, boost pre-game)."This way, the "back" button for Community Levels could be on the same lower left position as the others "back" buttons. Page numbers would be alone on the right, and the search (that has no icon) could be sent to top right that has more room.
Hmn, maybe Owned maps could be a column in a single list of maps? You could order by this parameter to have the same easy access and it would be easier to search (I was searching on the wrong tab).
